What is organic? |
The products are called organic
when they come from the farming or raising of animals
where agrochemicals (pesticides or synthetic fertilizers)
have not been used neither STB hormones, anabolic steroids,
nor antibiotics. Transgenic varieties are not accepted
in organic production. When the food is processed, artificial
preservatives or additives are not used. Instead, the
relations among the living forces of nature are optimized:
the soil (fertilized with natural methods), the air, water,
and sun, and the different communities of living beings
in the agro-ecosystem. Many times the utilization and
bringing back of the Latin varieties is encouraged. Food
is prepared based on natural ingredients and with methods
that do not change their nutritional quality. The term
organic was coined by a British farmer in the 1950's.
In Europe, organic products are also called biological,
or bio for short, or ecological. |
